Stone Records is delighted to announce its latest release a CD of Australian art songs performed by a brilliant Australian-based recital duo. The soprano Lisa Harper-Brown is a favourite of the opera-going audience in Sydney, and David Wickham is one of the country s most sought-after accompanists. The repertoire will be new to a lot of listeners, although the style is familiar, being informed by the recognisable sound of twentieth century English song. All of the five composers featured (Roy Agnew, Geoffrey Allen, Michael Bertram, Raymond Hanson & Paul Paviour) are well-known Australian musicians, and between them they have established a new cultural identity Australian art song. The texts all English are a combination of traditional English poems, together with settings of words by Australian poets. With detailed notes provided by the accompanist, and full texts of the songs, this disc provides an excellent introduction to a largely unchartered area of classical music.
